Mike Hockey – Co-Founder and Director at Roc Technologies
Mike is a serial entrepreneur and a specialist in marketing and sales in the technology sector. Having left school at 16, Mike pursued a career in sales starting as a telemarketer for Vodafone. In a career spanning 28 years, Mike has held numerous sales and marketing roles in large and small companies managing teams up to 120 people and revenues of £100m.
Mike has also founded four tech start-ups including an early cloud business in 2000. Mike’s latest venture was recognised as the fastest growing IT services business in the UK by the Sunday Times Tech Track 100, and the 2nd fastest growing tech services business in Europe by the Financial Times. The business was established in 2013 and has achieved run rate revenues of £25m and employs more than 200 people.
In his career Mike has risen through the ranks, winning multi-million pound deals. He has also been fired from a large corporate employer, lost all his life savings and then made it all back and more again. In this session Mike will talk about the key drivers of success and share lessons learned the hard way!
David Kennedy – Commercial Director at zsah
David has been working in the IT industry for more than 30 years, mainly in the security area. He has worked in business development and product management roles for a number of companies, including Symantec and Trend Micro.
David’s role in zsah is that of Commercial Director, responsible for a number of aspects of the business, including sales and client relationships.
Two particular areas of focus for David are working with software companies that want to build successful partnership models for the delivery of SaaS solutions; and developing long term relationships with the UK Government sector.
David specialises in compliance, data privacy and security.
Paul Arora, Founder of Invenio
Paul, a Chartered Accountant (Deloitte) with many years experience in M&A lead advisory, and is Senior partner at Invenio Corporate Finance. During his early career he held senior financial positions within Ladbrokes, Rio Tinto, Lombard Bank and Trace Group. He has spent significant time working overseas, including a year as Interim Managing Director in Mumbai within Publicis Groupe SA.
He gained his transactional experience over a 10 year period running the family office for the Vice Chairman of Hyatt international, during which time he was involved in number of international transactions across Europe and Asia.
He then went on to run his own M&A boutique specialising in sell-side transactions for owner managed businesses, completing deals across a range of sectors, including IT, travel logistics, manufacturing, corporate hospitality, food production, healthcare and biotechnology. He subsequently spent two years as a Partner at Bluebox Corporate Finance (founded by James Caan) where he was instrumental in establishing the company’s Partner Programme.
John Warchus, Partner at Moore Blatch
John is a Partner in the Corporate and Commercial group in Moore Blatch, specialising in commercial and technology law. For 25 years, he has advised clients on a wide range of complex commercial contracts and IT and IP issues. He is also closely involved with the protection and exploitation of intellectual property and clients include UK universities and retailers. His initial experience as a litigator advising on large scale IT disputes has been very useful in avoiding the pitfalls that can befall technology contracts. For the bulk of his time, he helps clients negotiate and draft complex commercial/technology agreements and related areas such as data protection, social media and procurement issues.
His clients range from tech start-ups to multinationals and public sector organisations. Moore Blatch strives to be an extension of the client’s commercial or legal team and, indeed, for many clients, act as their legal department. Accordingly, the firm must be responsive, focusing on key issues only and avoiding point-scoring against other lawyers.
Warchus is increasingly called upon to act for foreign clients doing business in the UK or for advice under a contract governed by English law.
